What does theft protection cover?

Losing your rental car is the last thing you want to deal with on holiday. That’s why Sunny Cars covers all costs in the event of theft – with no excess for you to pay. Even car radios and navigation systems, whether built-in or mobile, are insured. So you can enjoy your trip without stress.

Refund of the excess in the event of theft of the rental car?

If your rental car is stolen, the local rental partner will usually retain the deposit. Don’t worry: once you’re back home, simply submit the required documents and we will refund the excess quickly and easily. Full details can be found here.

Do you need extra theft insurance on-site?

The clear answer is: No. Theft protection is already included in the rental price with Sunny Cars. You don’t need to take out any additional policies locally.

What to do if your rental car is stolen

Stay calm and inform the local rental partner immediately. You’ll find the phone number on your voucher or attached to the car key. In addition, the theft must be reported to the police. Keep the official police report: hand in the original to the local rental partner and keep a copy for yourself.

If you cannot reach the local partner, you can always contact our emergency number.

What can you do to avoid theft of the rental car?

To reduce the risk of theft, we recommend a few simple precautions:

  • Always lock all doors and windows carefully and keep the car key in a safe place.
  • Park in well-lit, safe areas and avoid isolated spots, especially at night.
  • Never leave valuables visible in the car – store them in the boot or take them with you.
  • Use existing security features such as an alarm system or immobiliser.
