In many countries, the minimum age for renting a car is 25. With the Underage Service, you can reduce this limit to 21 years for a fee – this also applies to additional drivers. This means your car rental holiday is possible from the age of 21.

What is the Underage Service?

The service is designed for all drivers under 25 who still want to book a rental car. It lowers the usual minimum age requirement. Important to know: depending on the country, vehicle category or local partner, different age restrictions may apply. In some countries – for example in the USA – the limit is usually 25. Always check the specific rental terms before booking.

How does the booking work?

On the car selection page, set the filter Underage under “Services”. You will then only see vehicles where this service is available. If the option does not appear, simply enter your exact age under Personal Data in the booking process. You will immediately see whether a reduction of the minimum age is possible with the local rental partner and what costs may apply on-site.

Good to know

The minimum age to rent a vehicle is generally 21, in some countries even 23 to 26 years. In some cases, the length of time you have held your driver’s licence also plays a role. Always check the Special Rental Terms and Conditions so that you know exactly which rules apply at your destination.
