FAQ | Your car rental booking with regard to COVID-19

Sunny Cars not only provides a all-round insurance protection and includes all important services, we guarantee – in cooperation with our rental partners - the realization of all relevant hygiene measures during your car rental, as well as the greatest possible flexibility for your booking.
Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions of our customers regarding car rental bookings in Corona times:
Can I book a rental car for an upcoming trip without hesitation?
If you are planning your trip now, you should already be thinking about your rental car. If you book at short notice, prices may be higher and availability may be limited.
Nevertheless, keep up to date with the latest news on your destination country: you will find the latest information at Sunny Cars in the travel regulations.
We offer you the necessary protection: For new bookings until March 31th 2021 the free travel cancellation protection is always included. At Sunny Cars it is always possible to change your rental car booking free of charge until shortly before the start of the rental period anyway.
Our recommendation: Make sure that you also pay attention to flexible cancellation conditions when booking your accommodation.
Are the hygiene measures observed when I take over the car?
We are in contact with our worldwide rental partners to ensure relevant hygiene measures. More intensive vehicle cleaning and disinfection after return has been standard practice since the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic. Additional hygiene concepts, such as max. 1 customer in the office or hygiene kits in the cars are currently being implemented.
Important note: One possible measure is that your car is not always handed over directly by an employee. In this case, it is even more important that you check yourself at the time of pickup to see if the rental car has any damage that is not documented.
You will find information on the hygiene concepts of our rental partners in the vehicle selection under "Read special rental conditions". Here, the measures for most holiday countries are already available.
Are there limits to the number of people per rental car?
We currently have the specifications from European destinations on how the seating arrangements in the rental car are regulated, or where a mask is mandatory. These are legal requirements that apply equally to all providers / rental companies. It cannot be excluded that regulations will also be made for other destinations. Then you will of course find information here.
Please note: The limitation of persons always only applies to persons who do NOT live in the same household, i.e. not to families.
For persons not living in the same household, masks are obligatory in vehicles for all passengers except the driver.
The following regulation currently applies to the max. number of persons per vehicle:
- Vehicles with a capacity of up to 7 seats: 1 driver + 5 passengers. The limit can only be exceeded for parents with their children.
- Vehicles with a capacity of up to 8-9 seats: 1 driver + 7 passengers. The limit can only be exceeded for parents with their children.
Persons from the same household are not restricted, so the seating rule does not apply here.
When using the shuttle service to the rental car station, masks are compulsory on the shuttle bus.
If the passengers are family members, they can use the rental car together and occupy all available seats; there is no mask requirement.
If the passengers are not family members, the following rules apply:
2.1. the passenger seat must always remain free
2.2 When passengers are wearing the mask, up to 2 persons per row are allowed
2.3 If no masks are worn, only 1 person per row is allowed
2.4. this means that in a rental car with 5 seats a maximum of 3 persons can sit in one car
Spain & Portugal
There is no seating order, but persons not living in a household are required to wear a mask in the rental car. This also applies in shuttle buses, transfers and public transport.
In case of a new booking, please inform yourself about the legal requirements for the use of a rental car. Our colleagues will be happy to assist you by phone or e-mail. If you have an existing booking and there are seat restrictions for your holiday destination, you will of course be informed by us in good time.
Your holiday trip does not take place and therefore your existing car rental booking has to be cancelled?
Please check in your booking documents whether the free cancellation protection is included. With this service we enable you to cancel the rental car free of charge until shortly before the start of the rental. Please note that the cancellation must be made proactively by you even if you use the cancellation protection.
If you have not included a cancellation protection, please contact us under +49 89 829933900 or firstname.lastname@example.org with the request to cancel your booking. Our team will process your request as soon as possible.
How do I get my money back in case of cancellation?
After the cancellation of the booking, we will arrange the refund of the amount already paid. This usually takes place within 14 days.
Is my payment secured?
Of course you have security for your booking. At Sunny Cars the customer money protection is provided by the partner SGR (Stichting Garantiefonds Reisgelden).
